Treating the root cause of hyperpigmentation
The appearance of dark patches on our face is known as hyperpigmentation. It is mostly caused by an excess of melanin secretion. Melanin is a pigment which is responsible for the color of our skin. Jhaiyan is a common term used for hyperpigmentation in Hindi.

Causes
Some of the most common causes of hyperpigmentation are:-
1. Long exposure to sunlight – Melanin pigment also protects our skin from UV rays of sun. Therefore its secretion increases on prolonged exposure to sunlight.
2. Hormonal imbalance – It has been found that in women fluctuations in hormones estrogen and progesterone that may occur during pregnancy are responsible for hyperpigmentation of skin.
3. Inflammation – Inflammation also increases the secretion of melanin pigment.
4. Medicines – Long term use of medicines like some specific antibiotics and painkillers may also lead to hyperpigmentation.
5. Nutrient deficiency – Women who are anaemic or have haemoglobin level below 12 are more likely to experience hyperpigmentation. Vitamin B3 deficiency is responsible for variety of skin conditions. Thus, it also plays a significant part in hyperpigmentation.
TreatmentTo remove these dark patches, we frequently need to conduct peeling procedures like laser peel, chemical peel, etc., which is costly and leaves our skin extremely thin and sensitive.
