Healthy Desi Street Foods You Can Enjoy While on a Weight Loss Plan | Bite And Diet

We all know that street foods are unhealthy but there are times when we want to have fun with our friends or family members. When we say street food, the first thing that comes to our mind is fried tikki, samosa, bread pakoda and other fried snacks. While these things are incredibly irresistible, they can hinder your weight loss goal in a minute. So, here I am sharing 10 yummy street food options that you can enjoy even on a weight loss diet.

1. Jhal murhi – Very light evening snack that can be enjoyed with tea. Murmura which is also known as puffed rice is rich in vitamin B6 which is important for normal brain development and healthy immune system.

2. Shakarkandi chaat – One of the healthiest street food that you can ever have. Sweet potato or shakarkandi is one of the richest source of Beta carotene which is a strong antioxidant, that protects your liver from damage. They are also rich in fiber that helps in weight loss and managing blood sugar and blood cholesterol.

3.  Corn chaat -  Corn also known as maize is rich in vitamin C, Beta Carotene and fiber. All these nutrients protects our cells from damage due to toxins. You can also have popcorns instead of corn chat which is equally healthy. Just avoid adding lots of butter and excess salt in it.

4.  Noodles – Although they are not healthy as above two options but you can enjoy them occasionally. They are non-fried street food prepared with cabbage, soya sauce etc..which makes it a better choice than other fried options. Don’t overeat if you are on a weight loss plan.

5. Dhokla – Dhokla is prepared with besan and curd. Both these ingredients are rich in protein. Dhokla is easy to digest and can be enjoyed with green chutney. This makes it another good option when you want to eat outside.

6. Litti chokha – This is again non-fried bihari recipe which can be a meal also. Litti is made by stuffing sattu in dough. It is then roasted on an open flame and is eaten with baigan ka chokha.

7. Chholey Kulchey –If you have forgotten to take your lunch then you can have Chhole Kulche. They are easily available outside your offices or working area. Chholey is rich in protein and fiber which helps to keep you full for a long time.

8. Channa Masala – Chickpeas are nutrient dense food. They are rich in plant protein that helps to manage your weight and blood sugar.

9. Fruit chaat – Fruits are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. We all know that fruits are one of the healthiest food on planet, so fruit chaat can be a healthy snack if you are on a weight loss plan.

10.
Momos – Just like noodles momos are also non-fried chinese food but a better choice than noodles. This is because they contain more veggies than noodles which is very good for weight loss. Just avoid overeating.

One thing to note here is that street food is never healthy because they are not hygienic. So, it should only be taken once in fortnight. If you have any health problem always speak to your dietician before having these food items. You can even prepare these street foods at home with few modificaions to make it healthy.
