Beat the Heat: Refreshing Healthy Summer Drinks You Need to Try | Dietician Priyanka

Summers are best time time to lose weight. You can enjoy vacations and outdoor activities during summer. But staying hydrated is very important specially in summers as you can lose lots of water, salt and other electrolytes through sweat.   Electrolytes are essential minerals found in our body which helps to maintain  proper nerve, muscle, and brain function. Water also helps to regulate body temperature.  

So, today I am sharing some summer drink that you can enjoy to protect yourself from dehydration and heat stroke. You can have it any time of the day whenever you feel like.

1. Rose lemonade In ancient medicine rose petals are used for treatment of abdominal and chest pain, strengthening the heart, treatment of menstrual bleeding and digestive problems.  It also helps in the reduction of thirst which makes it a perfect drink for summerIt’s super easy. To make rose lemonade just make the rose simple syrup by using water, sugar and rose petals. Strain and let cool.  Then mix it with water and lemon juice. Always use wild roses to prepare this drink.



2. Plain buttermilk Buttermilk is a probiotic drink with  lots of healthy bacteria that helps to improve digestion. But remember one thing that never add salt to it as it will kill all the bacteria present in lassi and you will not be able to enjoy its probiotic effect. 



3. Coconut water - If you are somewhere outside and feeling dehydrated then, drink coconut water. Coconut water is a natural beverage that provides you all the necessary electrolytes that you need at the same time  keep you refreshed and hydrated.100g of coconut water contains only 3-4 g of carbohydrate, so even people with diabetes can drink it. 



4. Hibiscus sharbat - Hibiscus is a flower that has promising effect on your blood pressure and blood cholesterol. To prepare hibiscus sharbat, add some hibiscus petals in boiling water and let it infuse for 20 mins. Add rose water and little jaggery powder for flavour. You can also add some ice cubes in summer for a refreshing summer drink with heart healthy benefit. 



5. Lemon water - Lemon water is rich in vitamin C, but do your know that lemon peel contains 5-10 times more vitamin c than lemon juice itself. So instead of throwing lemon peel, you can add grated lemon peel to your lemon water.

You can prepare bael sharbat by adding its pulp in a glass of water. Add little sugar, ice cubes and drink it. 


7. Sattu water - If you want something filling which can even help you in weight loss then you can definitely try Sattu water. Sattu is prepared with either kala channa or barley (jau) and both of them are beneficial for health.  Channa sattu is rich in protein and fiber and have cooling properties. To prepare sattu water Just add 2tbsp of sattu powder in a glass of water and spice it with lemon juice, pudina ki chutney, chopped onion and chopped green chillies and  little rock salt for taste. 

8. Imli dhania ka sharbat - Tamarind is useful against a number health risking disorders which include cancer, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Dhania leaves have anti-inflammatory and cooling properties. To prepare this sharbat, add 1tsp of tamaring pulp and 2tbsp of dhania chutney in a glass of water. Add little sugar/ jaggery taste. 


9. Jal jeera - Jeera has cooling properties and also used for weight loss. It also helps to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increases HDL cholesterol which is also know as good cholesterol. We all used to prepare this drink in summer. To make it more tangy and spicy you can add tamarind pulp, mint leaves, amchoor powder, black salt and chaat masala. 

10. Aam panna - It is a perfect remedy for heat stroke or summer stroke. To prepare this recipe, boil some raw mangoes and cool it. Mash it and remove its peel and seed. Add water, little sugar, salt, jeera powder, ice cubes and your perfect summer drink is ready.
