The Right Way to Observe Navratri Fast: Tips and Guidelines by Dietician Priyanka | Bite And Diet

Everyone has their own reasons for fasting. While some have their own religious reasons, I find it the best way to  detox. We must detox ourselves at least twice a year, to give a break to our body.  If you are also one of them then here is the ultimate  plan for you.

Most of us drink tea with added sugar many times a day and eat fried food during fast which is the most worst thing that we can do. So here I am sharing some of the tips that you must follow if you want to detox yourself this Navratri. After following these tips not only you will lose weight but your will feel much lighter and energetic, your health complications will also improve and you will find a reduction in your Blood sugar and Blood pressure.

Tips to follow during Navratri fast

1. Say No to sugar - Sugar increases inflammation in our body. So if you want to detox avoid taking sugar. You can use stevia, dates or little jaggery if you have sweet taste.

2. Increase your fluid intake - The most important function of water is cleaning, so you can not detox properly if you are not taking enough fluid. You can have buttermilk or lassi, lemon water and orange juice with little rock salt or lassi. This will speed up your detox process.

3. Include Nuts - Nuts are packed with lots of nutrients and they are rich in protein and fiber too. So you must include 1 handful of nuts in your diet. Instead of regular milk, you can enjoy nutty milk also like almond milk and coconut milk.

4. Use desi ghee - Lots of people believe that fat is not good for health, but its not true. Fat gives us more energy for longer duration. They help to reduce inflammation and helps in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and D.  So you must include good fat in your diet like desi ghee to keep yourself energetic and satisfied for longer duration.

5. Follow proper meal timings - Fasting doesn't mean that you need to starve yourself. So neither overeat nor skip your meals. The best thing you can do is to have two complete meals in a day. Avoid unnecessary snacking and eating anything after 7 PM.
